Bio
Darryl Johnson earned his B.S. and M.S. in English Education from Northwest Missouri State University. He has taught for twenty-six years, spending time at Northeast Nodaway, Plattsburg, Smithville, and most recently Staley High School in the North Kansas City School District. In his time in public education, he has served on local, regional, state and national committees and was his department’s professional learning community leader for ten years. Darryl earned National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification, was awarded the Northwest Missouri State University Young Alumni Award, was selected Smithville High School Teacher of the Year eight consecutive times and received the MNEA Horace Mann Award.  He has written numerous articles for regional and national journals, published a memoir titled The Last Call, spoken at several commencement ceremonies and has given keynotes to local, regional and national audiences. He also serves as an adjunct instructor for the Department of Education at William Jewell College. In 2007, Darryl was selected as Missouri Teacher of the Year and was inducted into the National Teachers Hall of Fame in 2003, where he now serves as Chair of the Selection Committee.  He resides in Smithville with his wife, Renee, and their children, Emily (20) and Jake (17).
