Bio
Dr. Calee McElwain grew up in and currently lives in the same small town in rural Missouri, located South of Kansas City.  She attended University of Central Missouri (formerly called Central Missouri State University) in Warrensburg, Missouri, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a middle school endorsement in language arts, and a minor in Spanish.  She immediately began work towards her Master’s Degree at the same location, and received her degree in Curriculum and Instruction about 3 years later.  She also has a doctorate from Capella University, which she recently finished, after many years of hard work.

Dr. Calee McElwain currently works in a fairly large suburban school district, the Raymore-Peculiar School District, as a Curriculum Specialist.  She works with new teachers as a mentor, she also develops curriculum, presents professional development, and serves as a liaison between district office and teachers in the buildings.  In the past, she has been an Instructional Coach, where she worked more directly with teachers at the building level.  Dr. McElwain has taught a variety of grades, including 3rd-5th grades self-contained, 6th grade Communication Arts, and 7-12 Spanish.   Currently, she services teachers in grades 7-12, offering support with integrating literacy in all content areas, as well as current district initiatives.

Dr. Calee McElwain has one daughter, Marissa, who attends the University of Missouri-Columbia.  She is officially an “empty-nester” except for her black lab, Belle, and her daughter’s cat.  In her free time, she likes to read, work out, travel, spend time with family, watch sports, crochet, and complete projects around the house.
